Brief Biodata

Born 1952 in Boston, Massachusetts (USA). Graduated 1974 from Brown University (Providence, Rhode Island) with a Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. Graduated 1977 from the University of Chicago Law School with a Juris Doctor degree, Law Review. Member of the Bars of New York (1985) and Washington, DC (1977). Law clerk to US Federal Judge Barrington D Parker, Jr. 1977-1979. Practiced US litigation and international arbitration in law firms from 1979-1985, 1993-1995 and 1998-2016 (Washington DC, New York, London, Hong Kong, Singapore), and with the US State Department Legal Adviser's Office from 1985-1993. Married to Michael Glennon, a retired journalist, with daughter Madeleine (b. 1988) and son Peter (b. 1991).

Has been a partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, one of the top law firms in the world, since 1998.

Has taught at American University and the University of Miami School of Law, and in 2001 was invited to deliver the prestigious Hague Lectures at the Academy of International Law. A measure of the esteem in which is held by practitioners and scholars alike , elected as President of the American Society of International Law from 2008 to 2010.
