Brief Biodata

Dr Stanley Lai is the Head of the Intellectual Property & Technology Department, Allen & Gledhill LLP. He obtained his law degree from the University of Leicester (UK) in 1992, and qualified to practise as a Barrister in England and Wales in 1993. He is a member of Lincolnís Inn. Dr Lai pursued postgraduate studies in the University of Cambridge, earning his Masters of Laws degree in 1994. He was admitted to practise as an advocate and solicitor in Singapore on 29 July 1995, after obtaining the Law Society Prize for the Best Student in Advocacy in the Singapore Practice Law Course Examinations. Thereafter Dr Lai resumed his postgraduate studies, beginning his PhD research in the area of information technology law and computer software copyright under Professor William Cornish in Cambridge. He is the first Singapore-born lawyer to receive a PhD in Law from Cambridge University, England. Dr Lai has also appeared in a number of commercial disputes in the High Court and the Court of Appeal.
