Scholarships & Financial Assistance

The following scholarships and financial aid scheme are available to eligible Graduate students:

For Research Programme (PhD)

For all Coursework Programmes (LLM), except Asian Legal Studies, International Arbitration & Dispute Resolution, Maritime Law and International Business Law specializations

(Only citizens of member countries of ASEAN, except Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents, are eligible to apply.)

For all Coursework Programmes (LLM), except International Business Law
- Kwa Geok Choo Graduate Scholarship
- Faculty Graduate Scholarship (FGS)
- Scholarship for Young Asian Academics (SYAA)
(Only Asian academics holding academic appointments at institutions of higher learning are eligible to apply.)

For all Coursework Programmes (LLM)
- Riady Scholarship
(Only Indonesian citizens are eligible to apply.)

For Coursework Programme, LLM (Intellectual Property & Technology Law)
- Ella Cheong LLM (Intellectual Property & Technology Law) Scholarship

For all Coursework Programmes (LLM), except Asian Legal Studies, International Arbitration & Dispute Resolution,  Maritime Law and International Business Law specializations
- Tuition Fee Loan (TFL)

The maximum loan quantum is 90% of the tuition fees payable by Singapore Citizens for the same course.

The following categories of graduate students are not eligible to apply for the TFL scheme:

Students who are not eligible for MOE Subsidy
International students who are not on Service Obligation Scheme
Holders of Scholarship/Fellowship/Tuition Fee Allowance [click here for the list]

PSC Scholarship/Bursary holders

Research Scholarship
Eligibility
Applicants must be university graduates with at least a second class honours (Upper Division) or its equivalent and have been admitted to or being assured of admission to our full-time Common Graduate Research Programme (CGRP).

Applicants should indicate “Scholarship” under ‘Source of Finance’ when applying for admissions to the research programme. Please provide a one-page write-up on why you should be awarded a scholarship. The outcome will be made known at the same time as the admission outcome.

Lee Kong Chian Graduate Scholarships         
Eligibility
The Scholarships are the University’s most prestigious awards for PhD students. The selection will take place once a year, in time for the start of the academic year in August. The bond-free Scholarships are open to all nationalities who will be admitted as a candidate for the PhD programme. Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated academic excellence, leadership and a commitment to service.

Application Procedure
Applicants should indicate “Lee Kong Chian Graduate Scholarship” under ‘Source of Finance’ when applying for admissions to the research programme. Please provide a personal essay and a record of co-curricular activities or community services. The outcome will be made known sometime in May.

President’s Graduate Fellowships
Eligibility
PhD Research candidates who demonstrate exceptional promise for accomplishment in research will be considered for the award.

Commonwealth Scholarship
Eligibility
The Scholarship is awarded to outstanding graduate students from Commonwealth countries for research leading to a higher degree at the University. This Scholarship is for new, incoming students who are not Singapore citizens or permanent residents.

Graduate Scholarship for ASEAN Nationals (NUS GSA)
Eligibility
The University offers these Scholarships each academic year to citizens/permanent residents of a member country of ASEAN* (except Singapore) to finance the pursuit of the LLM coursework degrees:

- LLM
- LLM (Corporate & Financial Services Law)
- LLM (Intellectual Property & Technology Law)
- LLM (International & Comparative Law)

Applicants must have all of the following:

- an excellent academic record (at least be in the top 10% of the class);
- a very good command of the English Language (a minimum iBT TOEFL score of 100 or IELTS of 7.0);
- at least 2 years of relevant working experience.

Kwa Geok Choo Graduate Scholarship

Eligibility

Scholarship for Young Asian Academics
Eligibility

1. The scholarship is tenable for full-time coursework programmes leading to the degree of Master of Laws (LL.M.) or any of the specialist LL.M. degrees at this University.
2. Applicants must be holding academic appointments at higher-learning institutions and be university graduates with an LL.B. degree or equivalent.
3. The scholarship is available for award to outstanding Asian applicants, except Singapore citizens and permanent residents.

Terms of Award
There is no bond of obligation on the scholar to serve the University or in Singapore. The scholarship will cover tuition fees.

Riady Scholarship

Eligibility

1. The scholarship is tenable for full-time coursework programmes leading to the degree of Master of Laws (LL.M.) including International Business Law
2. The scholarship is available for award to outstanding Indonesian applicants


Terms of Award
There is no bond of obligation on the scholar to serve the University or in Singapore. Terms of award are subject to change by the scholarship provider. The scholar will be provided with

- tuition fees;
- a monthly stipend of S$1000 throughout the period of the award from the start of the programme until the end of Semester 2 of every academic year (excluding the vacation period in Semester 2);
- cost of economy travel directly from the home country to Singapore upon award of the Scholarship; and
- cost of economy travel directly from Singapore to the home country upon successful completion of the course of study.


The scholarship is tenable only for the Academic Year in which it is awarded. The scholar cannot be a concurrent holder of any other form of free aid such as grants, bursaries or scholarships without obtaining prior approval from the respective awarding bodies for the concurrent holding of the awards.

Please provide a one-page write-up on why you should be awarded a scholarship, a detailed CV and supporting documents reflecting per capita income with your admission application. The outcome will be made known at the same time as the admission outcome.

Ella Cheong LLM (Intellectual Property & Technology Law) Scholarship

Eligibility
Outstanding applicants of any nationality (including Singapore citizens and permanent residents) may be awarded the Scholarship to pursue the LLM (Intellectual Property & Technology Law) degree programme.

Applicants with Intellectual Property related or scientific background are preferred.

Terms of award
There is no bond of obligation on the scholar to serve the University or in Singapore. The scholarship will cover tuition fees. The Scholarship is tenable only for the Academic Year in which it is awarded.

The scholar cannot be a concurrent holder of any other form of free aid such as grants, bursaries or scholarships without obtaining prior approval from the respective awarding bodies for the concurrent holding of the awards.

Terms of award are subject to change without prior notice.
