Professor Donna Craig

Professor Donna Craig is the Associate Director of the Centre for Environmental Law, where she is Director of the Environmental Law and Indigenous Rights Program.  She is a senior academic in the Division of Law at Macquarie University in Australia.

Qualifications

She is a graduate of the University of New South Wales (B.A., LL.B), and Osgoode Hall, York University of Canada (LL.M).  She was admitted as a Legal Practitioner in New South Wales and as Barrister of the Supreme Court of New South Wales (1977-1991).

Biographical Details

She has over 20 years experience in teaching environmental law at Macquarie University and in training courses in the non-government, government and corporate sectors.  She has combined practice with teaching. She has undertaken some of the earliest Australian research and practice in the areas of international environmental law, indigenous rights and environmental law, and the assessment of their social and cultural impact.

International Experience

She is a member of the Law Commission of the World Conservation Union (IUCN) - the oldest international environmental law organization.  She has also represented the region as Vice-Chairperson on the Steering Committee of Law Commission (1994-2001).

She is currently the Regional Governor of the International Council on Environmental Law (ICEL). IUCN and ICEL are both accorded observer status at the United Nations.  She has also worked continuously with colleagues from the Asia Pacific Environmental Law Centre (National University of Singapore) on an environmental capacity building project for Asia/Pacific region (1994-now).
