Professor George Wei is a full Professor at the National University of Singapore.
Professor Wei is a graduate of the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (Diploma in Law) and University College London (L.L.M.). He is a barrister of the Inner Temple (London) and a barrister of the Hong Kong Bar. He has also been admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore.
Professor Wei practiced law for a short time at the Hong Kong Bar (late 1970s) before joining the Law Faculty of the National University of Singapore (1981). He was made full Professor of Law at the Law Faculty (2002).
Professor Wei has taught intellectual and industrial property rights at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level (mid 1980s - now). He has also taught insurance law, shipping law, law of tort and family law. He is also a member of the Copyright Tribunal of Singapore, which has jurisdiction to hear a variety of matters under the Copyright Act, including the terms and conditions for performing rights and broadcast licences.
Professor Wei sits on the editorial board of the International Journal of Law and Information Technology published by Oxford University Press. He has written extensively in the area of intellectual and industrial property rights. He is the author of Law of Copyright in Singapore, now into its second edition. His most recent text book publication is "An Introduction to Genetic Engineering, Life Sciences and the Law" (2002).
