Professor Hiroji Isozaki is a Professor of International Law at Iwate University, Japan.
Prof Isozaki has been a Research Associate at the Faculty of Law of the Tokyo Metropolitan University. He was also a Visiting Professor at the Environmental Law Center of the University of Strasbourg and at the Institute of International Law of the University of Cologne (1999).
Prof Isozaki has mainly carried out academic research on the north-south problem, law of the sea issues and environmental issues from an international law perspective. Recently he has been organising and contributing to several research programmes, both national and international, on sustainable management of nature and natural resources and positive implementation of environmental treaties.
Prof Isozaki is affiliated to the Japan Society of International Law, the Japan Society of World Law, the Japan Society of Wildlife Conservation, the Japan Society of Environmental Economics, Policy and Law and the Japan Society of Environmental Law and Policy. He is also a member of the Expert Group of SBSTTA of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Commission on Environmental Law of IUCN, and several other national advisory bodies.
He has also published many articles and books on environmental issues, including the first Japanese textbook on international environmental law. His recent articles include International Environmental Treaties and Domestic Environmental Law (joint author, Nihon-Hyoronsha, 2002); International Law on Living Resources (joint author, Sanseido, 2001); A Guide for International Environmental Law Cases (joint editor and author, Shinzansha Pub, 2001) and International Environmental Law (Shinzansha Pub, 2000).
