Dr. Steven R. King is Vice President of Ethnobotany and Conservation, PS Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
Dr. King is a graduate of College of the Atlantic (B.A. (Human Ecology)), City University of New York (M.S. (Biology)) and City University of New York (Ph.D. (Biology)).
Dr. King was Chief Botanist for Latin America (1989-1990) and held leading positions in Shaman Pharmaceuticals, Inc (1990-2002).
Dr. King has conducted extensive multi-disciplinary field research in the fields of ethnobotany and ethnomedicine. His research locations include Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Nepal, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia.
He has 54 publications to his name, the most recent include Biodiversity Prospecting: Lessons and Prospects (together with K. Moran and T.J. Carlson) and Sangre de Drago (Croton Lechleri Müell. - Arg.) - A Phytomedicine For The Treatment Of Diarrhea (Health Notes: Review of Complementary and Integrative Medicine, 2000, 7(4): 315-320, together with T.J.S. Carlson).
He has also delivered 70 presentations at invited lectures, his latest include a presentation on Shaman Pharmaceuticals research process, reciprocity, benefit sharing and indigenous people at the William Durham course on Conservation and Tropical Rainforests, Stanford University (2001) and a Keynote Speech on Ethnobotany and the gift of native people, food and medicinal plants around the world at the Lady Bind Johnson Wildflower Center, Austin, Texas (2000).
