Professor Wand Xi is the Director of the School of Law in Shanghai Jiaotong University.
Dr. Wang is a graduate of Wuhan Normal College, P.R.C (B.A., Department of Chinese Literature and Language), Washington University, U.S.A. (M.J.S., School of Law) and Wuhan University, P.R.C. (M.L. and Ph.D. (Law)).
Dr. Wang specializes in international and comparative environmental law. He is a Member of the Academic Committee (Environmental and Resources Law), National Key Institution in Humane and Social Science Research, Education Ministry of PRC and Deputy Secretary General of the Chinese Society of Environment and Resources Law. He was Director for the Project "Law and Policy Research for the Demonstration Project of Water Pollution Control in Hanyang District, Wuhan City" (a project of sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology)(2002) and Director for the Project "International Environmental Law and the Application and Implementation of International Law in China", granted by the Ministry of Education (2001). He was Consultant for the ADB Project "Trans-boundary Water Resources Management of Yellow River" (as an Environmental Law Expert)(May-Dec 2002) and Commissioned a paper for the ADB Project on Soil Conservation in China (2001).
Dr. Wang has contributed to the CDG Fellowship research project "The Law and Policy of EU on Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction" at the Environmental Law Center of IUCN, Bonn, Germany (Nov 2000 - Jan 2001). He Co-directed the China-Australia Institutional Linkage Program - "Sustainable Development Law in China and Australia: Research, Education and Training" (Funded by AusAid, Australian Government) (1997-2000) and is currently Coordinator for the Program of Promoting Environmental Law in China between the Environmental Law Program of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) and Wuhan University (1999-now).
He participated in the UN World Summit on Sustainable Development at Johannesburg, South Africa (Member of the Delegation of IUCN-Environmental Law) (Aug-Sept 2002), the International Conference on Environmental Law at Natal University, Pietermaritsburg, South Africa (Aug 2002) and The Third Rosenburg International Forum on Water Policy at Canberra, Australia (Oct 2002).
He was Editor in General for International and Comparative Environmental Law Review (Vol. 1, 2002), Law Press China and Chief Translator and Editor for UNEP Environmental Law Training Manual, Law Press China (2002). He is also a Member of the Editorial Committee for Journal of Asian Pacific Environmental Law, Australian Center for Environmental Law, School of Law, Sydney University, (1996-now). He has written books on International, American and Chinese Environmental Law (1992-1999).
