The Asian Society of International Law (AsianSIL) encourages activities promoting research, education and practice of international law. This document outlines the forms of AsianSIL involvement in external events and the procedure for having AsianSIL endorsement in each case.

1. Co-Sponsored Events

Co-sponsored events are formally endorsed by the AsianSIL (listed as "co-sponsor" or "co-organizer") and should have an AsianSIL representative (perhaps from the ExCo, or a delegate thereof) on any organizing committee. The Research and Planning Committee would ensure that such events fit within the work schedule and priorities of the Society. .

To propose a co-sponsored event, write to the Research & Planning Committee (through asiansil-admin@nus.edu.sg ) outlining (a) the nature, date, and location of the activity, (b) participants, (c) audience, (d) outputs, and (e) how the activity relates to the work of the Society. The proposal should also indicate (f) what support would be sought from the Society. The proposal should be at most one page, with an additional three pages of references if required.

The Committee will periodically consider such proposals in order to determine whether to (i) approve the proposal; (ii) suggest revisions; (iii) reject the proposal.
Should a proposal involve the application of financing from the AsianSIL, such a proposal should be sent to the ExCo for decision. In the case where a financing is not requested from the AsianSIL, the proposal would be considered at the Committee for approval and the decision would be electronically notified to the ExCo.

In the case of an approval, the Committee would also designate an appropriate AsianSIL representative. That person would be responsible for periodic reports to the Committee.

2. Regional Meetings

Regional meetings are not events of the Society but events to which it agrees to attach its name and advertise on its website. An approved event may state that "This event has been designated a regional meeting of the Asian Society of International Law."

To propose a regional meeting, write to the Research & Planning Committee (through asiansil-admin@nus.edu.sg ) outlining (a) the nature, date, and location of the activity, (b) participants, (c) audience, (d) outputs, and (e) how the activity relates to the work of the Society.

The chair of the Research & Planning Committee will make a preliminary decision and forward the email description to committee members. If not committee member raises any concerns within a period of one week, the event will be deemed approved.

3. Advertised Events

A third category of events are those simply advertised on the website and broadly related to international law within the region. Such events could be listed on the website with information of such listing going to the chair of the Research and Planning Committee but without formal action required.

To propose an event to be advertised on the website, write to the AsianSIL Secretariat
asiansil-admin@nus.edu.sg outlining the nature, date, and location of the activity as it should appear on the website, including a contact point for further information.
