ASLI Conference/Symposia ASLI organises annual academic conferences hosted by its founding member institutions on a rotating basis. These conferences examine contemporary legal issues of interest to Asian countries and gather scholars and experts from the member institutions as well as from Asia and beyond. A suitable theme of relevance to Asia is decided for each annual conference by ASLI’s Board of Governors. For the inaugural conference held on 27th and 28th May 2004 hosted by the Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore, the theme was The Role of Law in a Developing Asia. The second conference was hosted by Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok on 26th and 27th May 2005 and carried the theme Asia and the Challenges of Law: From Globalisation to Regionalisation? The theme for the third conference at the East China University of Politics and Law in Shanghai was "The Development of Law in Asia: Convergence versus Divergence?". The conference was held on 25th and 26th May 2006. ASLI welcomes legal scholars to attend and present papers at its annual conference, both from ASLI founding institutions as well as other institutions within and outside Asia. The conference is open to all whether or not they present a paper. The conference provides excellent opportunities for scholars in Asian law to meet and exchange ideas and to form closer working and personal relationships. The University of Indonesia will host the fourth ASLI Conference on Thursday and Friday, 24th and 25th May 2007. The theme is 'Voices from Asia for a Just and Equitable World' |
