The study of law at Chulalongkorn University began in 1933 when King Rama VII decided that law teaching at the Law School of the Ministry of Justice had developed to such an extent that it could be raised to university standard. The Faculty of Law and Political Science was thus established. In 1972, an independent Faculty of Law came into being at Chulalongkorn. The Faculty is today recognised as the leading law school in Thailand. Many of its alumni and professors have gone to become prominent leaders in Thai society, including Thongtong Chandransu (Deputy Permanent Secretary of Justice), Ukris Mongkolnawin (Speaker of the House of Senate and President of the Thai Parliament) and Surakiart Sathirathai (Minister of Finance and Minister of Foreign Affairs).

The East China University of Political Science and Law (ECUPL) is one of China's oldest universities and most prestigious law schools. Set up in June 1952, ECUPL was a merger of the departments of law, politics and sociology of Saint Johns, Fudan, Nanjing, Dongwu, Hujiang and Anhui Universities. Formerly a higher learning institution of the Ministry of Justice, ECUPL is now a university jointly administered by the central and Shanghai governments. It is also the first Chinese University to be accredited by the American Bar Association. Many of the University's professors and researchers have not only taken up important posts in national academic organizations, but acted as consultants for the legislature at various levels of the country as well.

The University of Hong Kong first opened its doors in 1911. Its Department of Law was established in 1969 as part of the Faculty of Social Sciences. In 1978, the Department parted company with the social scientists and became a School with an autonomous Board of Studies. On 1 July 1984, it matured into a full-fledged Faculty of Law, comprising the Department of Law (responsible for the three-year Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree) and the Department of Professional Legal Education (which administers a one-year course leading to the award of the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL)). In 1986-87, the Faculty introduced a programme leading to the degree of Master of Laws (LLM). The programme concentrates upon international trade law, commercial law, transport law, tax law, human rights law, international law and the laws of the PRC and East Asia, and is directed particularly, although not exclusively, at young graduates in practice.

The Faculty of Law is part of Universitas Indonesia, which emerged after Indonesian independence from the merger of the Universiteit van Indonesië with the Republic of Indonesia School of Higher Education. The UI Law Faculty is today recognised as one of the most prestigious law schools in Indonesia, having produced numerous graduates occupying the highest echelons of government and the legal fraternity.

The Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah (Faculty) of Laws is part of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), which was founded in 1983 by the Government of Malaysia and co-sponsored initially by the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and several Muslim countries. The University uses English as the medium of instruction and draws students from more than 90 countries around the world. Among IIUM’s objectives is the goal to become a leading international centre of educational excellence which revitalizes the intellectual dynamism of Islam and the Muslim Ummah. Named after the renowned Singapore-born legal scholar, the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyah of Laws plays an integral role in promoting the study of Islamic Law while emphasising the comparative aspects of the major legal systems in the world.

The Faculty of Law of Kyushu University was founded in 1924 as a Department of the Faculty of Law and Letters, and achieved independent status in 1949. As one of the major law schools in Japan with a keen interest in Asia-Pacific legal affairs, the law school has contributed a great deal to the advancement of the study of jurisprudence and political science. It has educated and trained more than 13,000 promising graduates, who have been playing important roles in the law profession, the business world, academia, and public affairs both in and outside Japan. In 1994, the law school also initiated the first LL.M. (a Master's Program in International Economic and Business Law), taught entirely in English from a Japanese perspective.

Established in 1972, the Faculty of Law of the University of Malaya is the oldest and the foremost law school in the country. It offers both undergraduate programmes leading to the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) (Honours) and Bachelor of Jurisprudence (B.Jur) degrees, and postgraduate programmes leading to the Master of Laws (LLM), Master of Comparative Law (MCL), Master of Criminal Justice (MCJ), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) degrees. The Bachelor of Jurisprudence (External) programme is another programme offered by the Faculty. To date, the Faculty has produced more than 3,000 graduates, who are spread throughout the country and beyond its shores, contributing not only to their profession but also to every facet of society. Among its alumni are the current Attorney-General, several High Court judges, senior partners in major law firms, academics and senior corporate persons. Apart from its degree programmes, the Faculty also provides through its Legal Education Extension Programme (LEEP), a series of short courses on specific areas of the law to meet the needs of both legal professionals and other interested individuals. The Faculty also has an active series of public lectures including the prestigious Sultan Azlan Shah Law Lecture, the Tun Abdul Razak Memorial Lecture and the Tun Mohamed Suffian Memorial Lecture. The Faculty publishes two journals, namely, the Journal of Malaysian and Comparative Law and the Survey of Malaysian Law.

The National Law School of India was established in 1987 at the initiative of the Bar Council of India with the co-operation of the Karnataka state government, Bangalore University and the Karnataka State Bar Council. Under the National Law School of India Act (Karnataka Act 22 of 1986), the NLSIU enjoys complete administrative and academic autonomy together with flexibility for innovation and experimentation in the pursuit of excellence. By and large, the management of the institution rests with the organised legal profession of the country. The Chief Justice of India is the Chairman of the General Council of the School, and a large number of retired Judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts as well as Senior Advocates assist the NLSIU in its teaching and research programmes. The first batch of students joined on 1 July 1988 in the integrated five-year B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) course. Having first started out at Central College, Bangalore University, the NLSIU moved to its own premises at the present address in 1992.

The Faculty of Law is part of the National University of Singapore, which is the oldest and most prestigious tertiary institution in Singapore. The roots of the Faculty lie in the establishment of the Department of Law in the then-University of Malaya in Singapore. In 1959, the Department attained Faculty status, with the pioneer batch of law students graduating in 1961. Following the reconstitution of the University of Malaya, the Faculty became part of the University of Singapore and then later the National University of Singapore. The Faculty is the sole law school in Singapore and has produced a vast array of prominent graduates occupying top positions in government, the judiciary, diplomacy, academia and the legal profession. Distinguished alumni include Chief Justice of Malaysia Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim ’67, Law and Foreign Affairs Minister of Singapore S Jayakumar ’63, Ambassador-at-Large Tommy Koh '61 and ASEAN Secretary-General Ong Keng Yong ’79.

The College of Law of the National Taiwan University dates back to the Law Faculty of the College of Liberal Arts and Political Science of Taihoku (Taipei) Imperial University during the Japanese administration over Taiwan. Today, the College of Law has three divisions, dealing with Judicial Administration, Legal Science and Economic and Financial Law respectively. The College of Law is known as the leading law school in Taiwan, and a great number of alumni have entered public office, academia and the legal profession.

The Law School is part of Peking University (Beida), one of the most renowned universities in China. Peking University traces its history to the establishment in 1898 of the Metropolitan University by the Qing Dynasty. The law school of Peking University is today one of the most prestigious law schools in all of China, and there is extremely keen competition each year among students to enroll in the school. Alumni of the law school have gone on to become prominent judges, academics and legal practitioners.

The College of Law of the University of the Philippines (Diliman campus) was established on 12 January 1911, and is largely recognised to be the leading law school in the Philippines. Its alumni have occupied the highest positions in Philippine society – four became President of the Republic - Jose P. Laurel, Sr., Elpidio Quirino, Manuel Roxas and Ferdinand E. Marcos; eleven served as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and a sizable percentage of the Senators and members of the House of Representatives are also graduates of the College. Many more of its graduates are, at present, prominent law practitioners, high officials in the government service and political leaders in private enterprises.

The roots of the SNU College of Law lie in the establishment of the National Judicial Training Centre during the late Joseon Dynasty. In 1895, the Joseon govenrnment, in a move to facilitate modernization, enacted the Law regarding the Constitution of the Courts. This Act separated the judicial from the executive branch and founded the first National Legal Education Institute. In December 1908, the institution was restructured, and later renamed the Kyungsung School of Specialized Studies in the aftermath of the Annexation of 1911. After the Second World War, the faculties of the Kyungsung School of Specialized Studies and the Kyungsung Imperial University were integrated to form the new National Seoul University, the precusor of the modern SNU College of Law.
