The roots of the SNU College of Law lie in the establishment of the National Judicial Training Centre during the late Joseon Dynasty. In 1895, the Joseon govenrnment, in a move to facilitate modernization, enacted the Law regarding the Constitution of the Courts. This Act separated the judicial from the executive branch and founded the first National Legal Education Institute. In December 1908, the institution was restructured, and later renamed the Kyungsung School of Specialized Studies in the aftermath of the Annexation of 1911. After the Second World War, the faculties of the Kyungsung School of Specialized Studies and the Kyungsung Imperial University were integrated to form the new National Seoul University, the precusor of the modern SNU College of Law.
