Dr Zou Yingying obtained her PhD degree in law from the Erasmus University Rotterdam under the supervision of Professor Gertjan van der Ziel. Before joining China Merchants Energy Shipping Co Ltd in 2013, Dr Zou spent 15-years teaching and researching on maritime law. She was a full Professor of Law at the Law School of Shanghai Maritime University and Vice Dean of the Law School.

Since the 1990s, Dr Zou has taken part in the development of state shipping legislation and has been on various governmental consultancies in China. She has also been a member of various expert panels established under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport of China. Dr Zou is active in international conferences and organised and spoke at some Young CMI events. In 2011, she was an "expert" for a workshop in Mauritius of the ACP (Africa, Caribbean and Pacific) Program of the EU.

Dr Zou was admitted to the National Bar of China 1997 and practiced law in China. She is a supporting member of the LMAA.
