Welcome and Introduction

Dear Colleagues

The NUS law school is delighted to be hosting the fourth biennial Obligations Conference together with the Singapore Academy of Law and the University of Melbourne. This conference series, which was conceived by Andrew Robertson and Michael Bryan of the University of Melbourne, is being held outside Australia for the first time. The preceding three conferences were very successful and I am confident that Obligations IV will continue this trend.

The programme is an exciting one with a wonderful line-up of distinguished speakers. It promises to be a very stimulating two days for all participants. The conference will be held at the NUS law school's charming new premises, the original site for the then National University of Singapore. And of course Singapore, which is Asia's Global City, has many attractions which will ensure that all our overseas participants will be able to have more than just a stimulating intellectual experience. I look forward to personally welcoming all of you to Singapore in July 2008.
