Personal Property Law I - Tangible

Course Description:
Personal property law cuts across many legal fields, including the law of sales, agency, company, insolvency and bankruptcy, insurance, banking and even the law of torts and crimes. This course aims to prepare intended lawyers for commercial practice by providing them with sufficient exposure to the general principles of personal property law and in particular, to furnish those keen to study Credit and Security or Bank Documentation with the basic principles necessary for understanding chattel mortgages and such other security devices as may be covered in detail in those subjects.

Contact Hours: 3-hr continuous weekly seminar

Workload: 3 hours

Mode of Assessment: Final Exam - 70%; Research Assignment (mid-semester) - 30%.

Preclusions: Nil

Prerequisites: (a) NUS Compulsory Core Law Curriculum or equivalent. (b) Principles of Property Law or an equivalent course in Land Law and Equity & Trusts or an equivalent course in Trusts.
