Law and Economics for Lawyers
Last Updated Date:   9 June 2009

4 Credits,  Semester 1

Course Description:
This course examines a number of areas of law including contracts, criminal, torts and property law using economic methodology. Economists build 'models' of problems using a deductive reasoning process that distils the essence of a problem to assess the likely outcomes from different legal rules. On the other hand, common-law legal reasoning uses an inductive reasoning process that looks for general principles from particular fact situations. The course will be taught assuming students have not studied any economics. The course will blend theory and practice and will, where possible, examine Singaporean judicial decisions.
