Financial Derivatives Law & Regulation

Course Description:
Given the importance of banking and finance to the global economy, Singapore, and the wellbeing of individuals, and how rapidly this has changed and continues to change, this course teaches students how to apply traditional legal precepts to new and innovative instruments. This module will provide students with an understanding of the trillion dollar derivatives market, their key legal and economic characteristics, conflict of law issues given the global nature of the market, market brokered as well as judicial solutions to disputes, and how traditional legal concepts have been used in innovative ways to address situations which were unconceived at the time, and how novel and new legal theories have developed to address lacuna in existing legal systems. Such legal innovation adds to the general legal body of learning.
