NOTICE TO OUTGOING EXCHANGE STUDENTS AY2009-20101. Responsibilities as an Exchange StudentAs NUS Exchange Students, you are ambassadors for NUS as well as the Faculty of Law.
Please also
read up other important information at: 2. General Information on the Selection of Subjects while on ExchangeWhile on exchange, it is your responsibility to ensure the following when selecting and reading subjects: a. You must complete sufficient credits while on exchange (Click here for a list of credit requirements at the partner institutions); and b. You must not read subjects which cover substantially the same ground as a subject you may already have read at NUS or which you intend to read when you return to NUS. Where in doubt about your choice of subjects, please send an email to the Law Student Exchange Team (lawsep@nus.edu.sg) with the following details: i. Name ii. Host University iii. Course Name iv. Course description (course details, number of contact hours, syllabus etc) For students in the Economics and Law Double Degree Programmes who are going on exchange, please also read the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences website at http://www.fas.nus.edu.sg/undergrad/toknow/special_programmes/sep.html 3. Selection of Non-law Subjects (Modules)You are allowed to read non-law subjects (modules); however, please adhere strictly to the conditions and requirements as set out in paragraphs 9 to 14 at http://law.nus.edu.sg/current/LLB/ay0910/sem1/infollb.htm. In particular, we wish to draw your attention to paragraph 10 which states that students can read a. 12 credits of non-law modules in Year 3 or b. 12 credits of non-law modules in Year 4 or c. 8 credits of non-law modules in Year 3, and 4 credits of non-law modules in Year 4 or vice versa. The non-law modules must be from the approved list, which will be made available on the Faculty of Law’s website in July / August for Semester 1, and in October for Semester 2 for AY2009/2010. While on exchange, you can do the equivalent of 12 credits out of a total of 80 credits taken in your final two years at the Law School. The host university’s credit system may not co-relate to the NUS credit system, so it is important that you submit your final list of courses while on exchange to ensure you do not inadvertently exceed the limit. The list will be reviewed and approved by Prof A Kumaralingam, Vice Dean for International Programmes. Where in doubt, please contact us at lawsep@nus.edu.sg. Students going on exchange may take any language courses as part of their allocation of non-law modules offered in our partner universities, subject to the approval of the Vice Dean for International Programmes. 4. Submission of Finalised List of SubjectsYou are required to complete this form with the required course information once the subjects are finalized. This is to ensure that you have sufficient number of credits and that the non-law modules are substantially similar to those in the approved list for non-law modules at NUS.
The form
should be submitted via email to
lawsep@nus.edu.sg with the following subject title and your full name &
partner university: If you are on exchange for a FULL academic year, you must reconfirm with us your Semester 2 course selection at the start of the Semester in the host university if there are any changes to your course selection as submitted at the beginning of the year. Otherwise, we shall assume that there are no changes. 5. Failure of Subjects / Insufficient Credits
You will
receive credit for subjects taken in other institutions while on approved
exchange programmes. While neither the marks nor the grades shall be taken
into account in calculating the Class of Honours for your LL.B. degree, you
are expected to pass all the subjects during your exchange stint to ensure
that you complete the number of credits required for graduation. 6. Official Transcripts from Host UniversityUpon completion of your exchange programme, if you are issued the official transcript from the host university, you must submit a copy to The Law Student Exchange Team at the following address:
Faculty of
Law, National University of Singapore 7. Leave of Absence (LOA)Students who are selected for an exchange programme are deemed to be on LOA from NUS for the duration of the exchange programme. Once the partner university accepts you as an exchange student, we will proceed to update your student status to reflect that you are away on student exchange. It is thus imperative that you submit a copy of your acceptance letter to the Law Exchange Team (c/o Ms Rahima Hussain) from the partner university as soon as you receive it. Please note that you need not participate in the subject registration exercise for Year 3 for the semester you are away on exchange if you have already received confirmation of your acceptance from the partner university. If your application is rejected by the partner university, please inform the Law Student Exchange Team immediately. This is important as it has implications on subject registration, and other administrative matters. 8. Communications
Email: All
correspondences with NUS will be sent from
lawsep@nus.edu.sg to your NUS email account. Please check and clear
your mailbox on a regular basis to ensure that your mailbox quota is not
exceeded. You may wish to provide an alternative email account in the event
that we are unable to contact you via the NUS account. 9. Pupilage MattersPupilage matters are administered by the law student body. Please ensure that you have checked with your class representative on pupilage application procedures before you leave for your exchange especially if your school term at the partner university is still ongoing when the moratorium date comes into effect. 10. Subject Registration for Returning Exchange Students
The
Undergraduate Division will email to you the details of subject registration
sometime in October if you are returning to NUS for Semester 2 AY2009-10, or
in late June/July if you are returning to NUS for Semester 1 AY2010-11.
