Brief Biodata

Terry Kaan is a graduate of the NUS (LLB) and Harvard (LLM). His primary fields of teaching and research are in the fields of tort, and in biomedical law and ethics. He teaches Torts and Biomedical Law & Ethics at the Faculty of Law. In the medical field, he has been a member of the Singapore National Medical Ethics Committtee since its inception. From 2001 to 2006, he was a member of the national Bioethics Advisory Committee (BAC), and the chair of the BAC's Human Genetics Subcommittee (HGS) which oversaw the drafting of national consultation papers and reports setting out guidelines on the conduct of human tissue research, research involving human subjects, genetic screening and testing, as well on the use of personal information in biomedical research. He is currently also a board member of the Singapore Nursing Board, as well as of the Ministry of Health's Advisory Committee on Transplantation.
