NUS Law Faculty Grad Scores Another First

Mr. Burton Ong, a senior tutor at the Faculty of Law, NUS has made history at Oxford University. Mr Ong, a first-class honours graduate of the Faculty of Law at NUS, will graduate with the degree of Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) with Distinction (formerly termed first class honours) from Oxford University, placing him among many faculty colleagues who have achieved the same distinction.

However, Mr Ong is also the recipient of the Vinerian prize at Oxford University. The Vinerian prize is considered one of the most, if not the most, prestigious graduate degree prizes in the Commonwealth and is conferred on the top student of the graduating batch of the degree of Bachelor of Civil Law. Mr. Ong is the first NUS graduate and indeed the first person from Singapore to be conferred the Vinerian prize.

Mr Ong will also receive the Monckton Chambers Prize for Competition Law and the Ralph Chiles CBE Award for Intellectual Property. Not content to rest on his laurels, Mr Ong will leave for Harvard University in September to pursue his Master of Laws.
