NUS - Peking University Law Student Exchange Agreement

The NUS Faculty of Law has signed a student exchange agreement with the Law School of Peking University in Beijing, PRC. The agreement was signed by Associate Professor Tan Cheng Han, Dean of the Faculty of Law, NUS and Professor Zhang Shouwen, Vice Dean of the Law School of Peking University on 16 July 2002. Peking University is the second Asian law school with which the Faculty has signed an exchange agreement.

Peking University, the former Jing Shi Da Xue Tang (the Metropolitan University) of the Qing Dynasty, opened in December 1898. In May 1912, the Metropolitan University was renamed "Peking University". By 1919, the university developed into the country's largest institution of higher learning. The Law School of Peking University has 88 academic staff, many of whom have taken up important appointments in academic organizations across the country. Other academic staff from the Law School work as legal experts or consultants to government organizations.

Under the terms of the student exchange agreement, each institution is entitled to send up to 4 students for a semester each year to the partner institution. The first exchange of students is expected to take place in August 2003.
