06 July 2004 National University Of Singapore Commencement 2004 The National University of Singapore (NUS) will hold Commencement 2004 from 6 to 15 July 2004 at the University Cultural Centre, NUS. His Excellency President S R Nathan, Chancellor of NUS will preside at the first Commencement ceremony. Dr Tony Tan, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Security and Defence and Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Acting Minister for Education will also be attending the first ceremony. There will be a total of 26 ceremonies over the 10-day period and more than 9,035 students will be graduating this year. The number of undergraduates and graduates receiving higher degrees are 6,041 and 2,994 respectively. The Commencement ceremonies will be webcast ‘live' over the Internet. This year's Commencement will present the first batch of graduates for 10 new degrees. These new degrees are as follows: Master of Technological Design (Embedded Systems) Master of Technological Design (Rapid Product Master of Technological Design (Mechatronics) Master of Science (Defence Technology and Systems) Master of Science (Industrial Chemistry) Master of Law (Corporate & Financial Services Law) Master of Law (International & Comparative Law) Master of Law (Intellectual Property & Technology Law) Bachelor of Computing (Computer Engineering) Master of Nursing Two new medals, Wee Kim Wee Medal and Eusoff College Medal , will be introduced this year. Named after Dr. Wee Kim Wee, former President of Singapore, t he Wee Kim Wee Medal was donated by The Courage Fund this year and is presented to the most outstanding Master of Nursing student. The gold medal is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $30,000. The Eusoff College Medal was established by several ex-residents of Eusoff College to commemorate and perpetuate the name of Eusoff College which was closed in 2001. The gold medal recognizes a Eusoffian for his/her overall outstanding academic performance and contributions to Hall activities. It will be awarded using proceeds of a capital of $30,000, from which funds were raised by the alumnae of Eusoff College and from an amount received from Eusoff Hall Reserves. As in previous years, the National University of Singapore Society (NUSS) will sponsor the Commencement Party, which will be held at the Kent Ridge Guild House at NUS on Friday 16 July 2004 . Commencement 2004 will culminate in a Commencement Dinner on Sunday 18 July 2004 which will be graced by His Excellency President S R Nathan.
