A/P Chan Wing Cheong is re-appointed to the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Elder Protection Team

Associate Professor Chan Wing Cheong has been re-appointed to the MCYS Elder Protection Team (EPT) for a two-year term. The EPT is a multi-agency elder abuse case discussion forum piloted by MCYS in September 2003, and spearheaded by TRANS Centre, a family violence intervention agency.

In a letter to Dean Tan Cheng Han SC, MCYS Director Ms Ang Bee Lian expressed her gratitude for the Faculty's support with A/P Chan's appointment and indicated A/P Chan has contributed significantly to the bi-monthly EPT case discussions.

During the course of one year, the EPT has achieved its objective of providing multi-disciplinary assessments and intervention in elder abuse cases. The EPT has also received strong support from professionals especially social workers, elder care providers and medical practitioners in the social welfare system.
A/P Chan specializes in criminal law and family law, and teaches these two subjects and child law at NUS Faculty of Law. He was an active volunteer probation officer with the then Ministry of Community Development and Sports (MCDS) in Singapore, for which public service he was awarded the MCDS Outstanding Volunteer Award in 1999. He was also a volunteer mediator with the Family Court of Singapore till 2003 and is at present a member of the Board of Visitors to Children's and Young Person's Homes.
