NUS Law School Post-Doctoral Fellowships
As Asia’s leading law school, the Faculty of Law of the National
University of Singapore (NUS) is committed to fostering research and
teaching excellence among young legal scholars. To that end, we are
pleased to announce the creation of three new post-doctoral fellowships
annually. The first batch of Fellows will be appointed in the 2007/08
academic year, commencing August 2007.
The selection criteria will include the applicant’s demonstrated
potential for research excellence in areas of relevance to Singapore,
Asia and the international community. Existing publications and a record
of organizing and participating in research projects will be
advantageous. The selection committee will consider the alignment of the
proposed research with the NUS law school’s research strengths and
priorities, which are varied. These include Corporate and Financial Law,
Asian Law and Legal Systems, International and Comparative Law,
Constitutional and Criminal Law, Maritime Law, Family and Child Law, and
Intellectual Property and Technology Law.
The Post-Doctoral Fellows will have the following qualifications and
privileges:
- be of exceptional calibre, having attained a doctoral
degree in law or a relevant discipline awarded three years or less
prior to the date of application;
- full-time appointment to NUS for one year, with a
remuneration of S$42,000. This sum includes a stipend for housing
(approximately S$12,000 for the year) and a monthly stipend for living
expenses amounting to S$2,500.
- teaching courses pertaining to his/her field of interest
amounting to the equivalent of 4 to 8 credits in the academic year (a
typical NUS law course carries 4 credits, taught over 36 hours over
one semester).
- conducting and furthering research into his/her field of
interest, facilitated by library privileges and seminar presentations,
and by being an integral part of the law school and university
community. Fellows will also have the opportunity to conceive and
organise relevant seminars, symposia and conferences as well as to
lead efforts to publish the papers arising out of such research
activities.
Points to note:
- Applicants who have not yet been conferred a doctoral degree may
be offered an appointment if evidence is provided that a doctoral
thesis has been submitted by 28 February 2007.
- Applicants are to submit a detailed curriculum vitae, outlining
his/her research plans in the next three years, supported by two
letters of support from academic referees.
- Fellows will be granted a return economy class airfare to and from
Singapore.
