Book by Mr Ngiam Tong Dow and edited by Assoc Prof Simon Tay '86 launched

The book, "A Mandarin and the Making of Public Policy" was launched to bring together reflections of Mr Ngiam Tong Dow, a veteran civil servant and pro-chancellor of the NUS. Associate Professor Simon Tay of the Faculty of Law served as editor, writing both an introduction and an epilogue, to set the reflections in the context of the policy-making processes and politics of Singapore. The book, supported by an NUS research grant, was launched as part of the NUS Centennial celebrations, with welcome speeches from both NUS President Shih Choon Fong and Mr JY Pillay, Chairman of the Singapore Exchange. Attention has been drawn to statements in the book on the future directions for the Singapore economy and political system, and sales have been brisk.
