Alan Tan '93 awarded Diederiks-Verschoor Prize for Aviation Law

NUS Law congratulates our Vice-Dean, Assoc. Prof. Alan Tan '93, whose recent article "Liberalizing Aviation in the Asia-Pacific Region: The Impact of the EU Horizontal Mandate" has won the 2006 Isa Diederiks-Verschoor Prize in Europe. The prize is named in honour of a Dutch jurist, and the article has been published in Volume 31 (2006) of Air & Space Law, a leading aviation law journal. Alan's article delves into the progressive liberalization of the aviation industry in the European Union and its impact on Asian countries and airlines. In particular, it analyses the disadvantages posed by Asian states negotiating more open bilateral deals with the US and the EU without significantly freeing up aviation markets among themselves first. This is part of Alan's ongoing research into the liberalization of the aviation industry in the Asia-Pacific, and he has also recently completed a consultancy for APEC on the pace of aviation liberalization in the past decade.
