NUS Faculty of Law’s Professor Jeffrey Pinsler appointed District
Judge
Professor Jeffrey D. Pinsler of the NUS Faculty of Law has been
appointed a District Judge of the Subordinate Courts. Professor Pinsler
will hear appeals from the decisions of Deputy Registrars in
interlocutory matters (in civil cases), including applications for
summary judgment, to strike out an action or pleading, the setting aside
of a judgment or order, discovery and other interim remedies and
reliefs.
Professor
Pinsler specialises in civil justice, civil and criminal evidence,
procedure, dispute resolution and ethics. He is an advocate and
solicitor, barrister-at-law, a member of the regional panel of the
Singapore International Arbitration Centre, a Fellow of the Singapore
Institute of Arbitrators, an accredited mediator of the Singapore
Mediation Centre, and also a member of various professional committees
of legal and governmental institutions including the Singapore Academy
of Law and the Supreme Court. He has appeared as amicus curiae before
the Court of Appeal, and has spoken at, and contributed to, conferences
and reform programmes in various countries. He has been involved in
thirteen major works as an author and/or general editor. Several of his
books are considered ground-breaking and his work has been regularly
cited by the courts. His latest publication (written for the Singapore
Academy of Law) is “Ethics and Professional Responsibility: A Code for
the Advocate and Solicitor”.
