Associate Professor Kumaralingam Amirthalingam appointed to the International Review and Assessment Committee for the Sultan Qaboos University College of Law

Associate Professor Kumaralingam Amirthalingam from the NUS Faculty of Law was recently appointed to the International Review and Assessment Committee for the College of Law at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), Oman.  The other members of the committee include two law professors from North America and two law professors from England.

The Committee’s task is to review the SQU College of Law and make recommendations to radically transform the college so it can meet the contemporary needs of Oman as an integral player in the global economy. Amongst other things, the committee will make recommendations on governance and human resource issues as well as curriculum design, which will be geared towards a more international legal education.  During a recent five-day visit to Oman, the committee met with senior ministers, judges, legal service and law enforcement officers, lawyers, academics and students.  A second visit is scheduled for January 2008 before the committee delivers its final report in March 2008.
