Simon Tay on CNN International

Associate Professor Simon Tay featured on CNN International in an interview broadcast on 6 Oct with Fareed Zakaria, editor for Newsweek International. The discussion on the USA and Asia moved from the record of the Bush government to Asian views on the presidential candidates and competition among the emerging powers in the region. Tay took the view that the Bush administration has diminished US influence and advised that the next American president should engage Asia more, and with more multilaterally. Tay said that APEC could provide the opportunity for this. Dean of the LKY School of Public Policy, Kishore Mahbubani, and Indian journalist and expert Raja Mohan were other guests. Tay offers a course on Asia and the International Community, and is concurrently chairman of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs.

Simon Tay Discusses US Presidential Election on Bloomberg

Bloomberg discussed Asia’s perspectives on the US election with Associate Professor Simon Tay on 4 October 2008. Tay cited surveys which show Democrat candidate Obama Barrack to be more popular among Asians, but said some governments have traditionally preferred republican Administrations. He called for American leadership in addressing the global financial crisis, and hoped that electioneering would not distract from action and resolve. Tay offers a course on Asia and the International Community, and is concurrently chairman of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs.
