NUS hosts the 2nd Regional Capacity Building Programme in Intellectual Property (IP) Law

The National University of Singapore (NUS) hosts the Second Regional Capacity Building Programme in Intellectual Property (IP) Law from 27 to 31 July 2009.

Organised by the NUS Faculty of Law and supported by Microsoft Singapore, the week-long programme will serve as a platform for discussion amongst IP policy-makers and IP enforcement officials in Asia on the challenges they may face in dealing with IP counterfeiting and piracy in their respective countries. The international standards of IP enforcement under the WTO’s Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property (TRIPS) Agreement will also be a focal point in the programme.

The opening ceremony for the programme was held at the NUS Faculty of Law on the morning of Monday, 27 July 2009. Ms Liew Woon Yin, the Director-General of the IPOS graced the event as Guest-of-Honour. The Managing Director of Microsoft Singapore, Jessica Tan also delivered a welcome note at the ceremony.

This year’s programme welcomed 36 participants - including government officials such as IP judges as well as officers from the police force and customs - from 9 Asian countries, namely, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
