Extension of Student Pass
If you intend to undertake an internship in Singapore during the vacation period, please ensure that you hold a valid Student Pass. Otherwise, please extend your Student Pass by taking the following steps:
| Step 1 |
Submit the following documents to the Dean’s Office, Faculty of Law (c/o Ms Rahima Hussain, Federal Office):
- An email or original letter from your home university granting approval for
- an extension of your period of exchange; and - your internship at an external organisation (outside NUS), stating the period of your internship
- An email or original letter from the external organisation, confirming that you have been accepted for an internship, stating the period of your internship (not employment).
- A completed CAP (Changes to Academic/Personal Particulars) Form; available at https://share.nus.edu.sg/registrar/info/ng/NGSCapformms.pdf
- A completed Application for Extension of Student Pass Form; available at https://share.nus.edu.sg/registrar/info/info/Extension_of_Student_Pass.pdf
| Step 2 |
The Dean’s Office, Faculty of Law, will endorse the CAP Form and submit it with all other documents on your behalf to the Registrar’s Office (RO).
| Step 3 |
Update the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) via SOLAR (Students Pass On- Line Application and Registration) of your new extended dates when you receive an email from RO to prompt you to do so.
| Step 4 |
RO will email to you to collect your In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter when it is ready. With the IPA, proceed to the ICA on your own to extend your Students Pass. Please note that a fee is payable and ICA will inform you of the amount.
| Step 5 |
Pay your Medical Insurance (GMIS) for the extended period at the Student Services Centre (please remember to keep payment receipt) at one of the following venues:
- Yusof Ishak House, Level 1, Kent Ridge Campus; or
- Bukit Timah Management Office, Blk B, Level 2, Bukit Timah Campus
The entire process may take about 3 - 4 weeks. It is thus advisable to start the application well before the end of the semester. At the same time, please work out other relevant matters such as housing etc.
Please note that it is not necessary to apply for a Training Work Permit, if you have a valid Student Pass. This is because you will only receive an allowance during your internship period. The allowance is not considered a paid salary for employment in Singapore.
If you are leaving Singapore before the expiry date of your student pass, please return your student pass at the immigration checkpoint at the airport.
