Victorious in Air Law and Space Law Moots

The month of April 2019 saw NUS Law emerge victorious in both the Leiden-Sarin International Air Law Moot Court Competition and the Asia-Pacific Regional Rounds of the International Air and Space Law Academy (IASLA) Space Law Moot Court Competition.

NUS Law students V Santhosh '19, Liew Zhi Hao '19 and Carina Tay '19 emerged as champions at the 10th special edition of the Leiden-Sarin International Air Law Moot Court Competition. This is the second time that NUS Law has won this competition, while appearing as finalists in all of its three appearances to date.

The team also clinched the Best Oral Arguments Awards for both Applicant and Respondent, while V Santhosh '19 received a special mention for Best Oralist. As champions, the team members are also offered prestigious internships at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal.

The competition was held in Chandigarh, India from 4 to 7 April 2019. The NUS Law team faced competition from Poland, Germany, Sri Lanka and India, before beating Leiden University of the Netherlands in the finals. The competition featured schools from Canada, France, Sri Lanka, Germany, Netherlands and Hong Kong, with China, Russia, Poland, India and Singapore each sending more than one team.

International Air and Space Law Academy (IASLA) Space Law Moot Court Competition 2019

The NUS Law team comprising Leong Kit Weng '21, Chong Fu Shan '22, Lee Kay Han '22 and Ong Hui Wen '22 emerged as champions in the Asia-Pacific Regional Rounds of the International Air and Space Law Academy (IASLA) Space Law Moot Court Competition 2019. This is the fifth consecutive time that NUS Law has won the regional rounds. Lee Kay Han '22 was also named the Best Advocate in the competition.

The regional rounds were held from 10 to 12 April 2019 in Sydney, Australia. NUS Law emerged top seed at the end of the preliminary rounds and defeated the Australian National University in the finals to become champions.

The team will represent the region at the International Finals in Luxembourg in August 2019.
