Highlights of Open Day 2019

NUS Law welcomed hundreds of visitors to the Bukit Timah Campus (BTC) on 9 March 2019 as part of NUS Open Day 2019. The annual NUS Law Open Day at BTC allows prospective students to learn about the undergraduate law programmes available, and get a taste of student life on this historic campus.

Visitors were greeted at the Eu Tong Sen Building by over 100 enthusiastic NUS Law student volunteers, who conducted campus tours and filled them in on the various aspects of life as an NUS Law student.

To showcase the wide range of co-curricular activities in NUS Law, student volunteers from the Law Club and Law sub-clubs set up booths with beautiful and informative displays to welcome prospective students.

Visitors were also treated to two exhibition moots on Commercial Arbitration and Criminal Law by the prize-winning Mooting & Debating Club. Students simulated real-life court proceedings to a full-house audience, acting as legal counsels to present cases before a panel of judges.

Professor Simon Chesterman (Dean, NUS Law) spoke to a 350-strong audience consisting of students and parents about the rigorous legal training that NUS Law students would receive and the career prospects for graduates. Professor Chesterman also fielded a wide range of questions from the audience, explaining what sets NUS Law apart from other law schools regionally and globally. This was followed by a talk by Professor David Tan (Vice Dean (Academic Affairs), NUS Law) who gave an overview of the curriculum offered by NUS Law. Students and parents also had the opportunity to ask questions during a panel discussion chaired by Professor David Tan. Joining him on the panel were Associate Professor Eleanor Wong '85 (Vice Dean (Student Life & Global Relations), NUS Law), Mr Chen Zhida '13 (Senior Associate, Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP), Mr Kenneth Wang Ye '16 (Assistant Registrar, Supreme Court of Singapore), Ms Parveen Kaur '16 (Foreign Service Officer, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singapore), Mr Sia Bao Huei '21 (President, NUS Law Club) and Mr Nilesh Khetan '22 (Chairperson, Freshman Orientation Central Committee). The panel shared candid and personal views about their journey from law school to working life, and gave advice to students who were considering an education in law.

In addition to the main Open Day activities at BTC, Associate Professor Eleanor Wong '85 also delivered two sessions of talks titled "Why Law? Why NUS?" at University Town.

Admissions for Cambridge 'A' Levels holders closes on 19 March 2019. For admission enquiries, please write to lawUGadm@nus.edu.sg.
