Description

Plastic pollution has become one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time. Over the last years, countries have increasingly recognised that plastic pollution needs a solution at the international level to complement national and regional efforts. During its next session in February 2022, the UN Environment Assembly will continue discussing a global treaty on plastic pollution.

This workshop aims to discuss preliminary findings with the workshop participants, gather feedback and initiate discussion amongst participating countries. To collect different kind of feedback, the workshop will be split in two parts – block I focusing on national and regional challenges and block II will focus on expectations towards a global treaty.

The workshop will use the Chatham house rules method to collect inputs and feedback, meaning that the information gathered during the workshop will be used in the report without revealing the identity and affiliation of the workshop participants. The project team may later contact the participants to clarify if selected positions can be used in the report by linking it to the country. The findings from the workshop will feed into the project report which is due to be published in autumn 2021.
