Description
The role of the IPCC, created in 1988 by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), is to provide governments at all levels with scientific information that they can use to develop climate policies. IPCC reports are also a key input into international climate change negotiations.
People often think that they cannot participate in the work of the IPCC, and only elite scientists can be part of the IPCC’s activities. As a scientific body, the IPCC’s relationship with its member governments is not always understood. Some people see the IPCC as a research body for climate change. These are just a few of the myths about the IPCC. But for many people it is hard to access the real information about the IPCC.
This webinar aims to debunk these myths about the IPCC, introduce the institution, its roles, its process of work, and introduce the people who work for IPCC, including its authors. The webinar will also explain to participants how to engage with the IPCC, as there are many ways to be involved and participate in the world of the IPCC.
