28 June 2023: APCEL at the Singapore Global ESG Forum

July 10, 2023 | In the News

Over June 26 to June 29, the 2023 Global ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Forum took place at the National University of Singapore’s CREATE Tower. The Forum—organised by the International ESG Association, Korea ESG Research Institute, and NUS Business School—brought together leaders in academia and business, both within and outside of the Asia-Pacific. The forum’s sessions were diverse, including circular economy practices by industry; battery metals and recycling; sustainable plastic management; and ESG and business implications.

Various experts across the National University of Singapore offered a multidisciplinary perspective to the forum. The Asia-Pacific Centre for Environmental Law (APCEL) was represented by Senior Research Fellow, Dr. Linda Yanti Sulistiawati (Senior Research Fellow) and Joseph Negrine (Visiting Researcher). Dr Sulistiawati was one of the speakers during the ‘Net Zero & Renewable Energy’ session, delivering an engaging presentation examining the subnational environmental regulations in Indonesia and the Philippines. Dr Sulistiawati argued that an evaluation of a country’s ability to meet its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) must look beyond regulations at the national level. Her presentation enjoyed considerable attention, providing the audience with new insights into environmental law in action.
