APCEL and Universitas Padjadjaran discuss collaboration in climate change law research and education
The Asia-Pacific Centre for Environmental Law (APCEL) at NUS Law welcomed representatives from the Faculty of Law at Universitas Padjadjaran for a meeting to explore opportunities for collaboration in climate change law research and education on 21 July 2026. Representing APCEL, Dr. Linda Yanti Sulistiawati introduced the current research and collaborations going on, while participants from Universitas Padjadjaran shared their expertise across spatial planning, marine conservation, renewable energy, water management, agrarian law, and climate justice. The discussions reflected a shared commitment to strengthening climate change law research and education through academic collaboration.

A key focus of the meeting was the development of Universitas Padjadjaran’s Climate Change Law course, which has attracted strong interest from undergraduate students. Dr. Sulistiawati offered insights and recommendations from her experience teaching climate change law and recommended a course structure which progresses from international climate law to national implementation and case studies. The discussions also highlighted the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to climate change education and research, including topics such as climate finance, carbon trading, and food systems, alongside practical learning opportunities through legal clinics.
The meeting concluded with discussions on future collaboration, including the possibility of joint research projects, guest lecturing, and student mobility opportunities. Dr. Sulistiawati also encouraged researchers to publish more climate change law scholarship in English-language journals to increase the international visibility of Southeast Asian perspectives. She also suggested the introduction of regular internal peer-review workshops to support and strengthen collaborative research.
