Working Paper: The Wild Animals and Birds (Amendment) Act (Act No 16 of 2020)

Parliament passed the Wild Animals and Birds (Amendment) Act on 25 March 2020, and it came into force on 8 May 2020. The Amendment Act is a much needed overhaul to the Wild Animals and Birds Act. While the amendments on the whole fill up long overdue gaps in the legislation, some of the amendments arguably create more gaps or could have been drafted more clearly.
