ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) Regional Consultation: Business and Human Rights, Environment and Climate Change in ASEAN, 29-30 May 2023

APCEL’s Senior Research Fellow, Dr. Linda Yanti Sulistiawati spoke at the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) Regional Consultation: Business and Human Rights, Environment and Climate Change in ASEAN, 29-30 May 2023.  Dr. Sulistiawati spoke on Session 2, Day 1, discussing ASEAN approaches to environmental protection and sustainable development: Cooperating across borders, sectors and pillars of regional community; Specifically on the Singapore Transboundary Haze Pollution Act 2014. Since its enactment until 2023, there has yet to be any cases to be tried in Singapore’s court under this Act, however, this Act does a confidence boost to the forest fire struggle in the region. The Consultation’s objectives are among others: to raise awareness on environment rights and climate change among ASEAN Member States (AMS); and to provide a venue of consultation for the regional framework on Environmental Rights in ASEAN.  The event is organized by AICHR Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur (hybrid mode).
