Dr Linda Sulistiawati participated in the International Conference “New Constitutionalism and Rule of Law during the COVID-19 Pandemic”

Courts play a key role in ensuring the enforcement of environmental laws to its fullest extent. This includes recognition and enforcement of environmental rights in all sectors of life, even during the pandemic. However, in most developing countries, environmental rights are pushed to the back seat as states are aiming for economic development, rather than sustainable recovery. This event highlighted the judiciary efforts in countries during the pandemic, and how environmental rights are maintained and managed.  Linda Sulistiawati, APCEL’s Senior Research Fellow, focused on Indonesian judiciary and how it is struggling to stay afloat amid the infrastructure and support challenges during the pandemic. She also highlighted court cases discussed during the pandemic and environmental cases are among the issues discussed.
