APCEL’s Senior Research Fellow, Dr. Linda Yanti Sulistiawati, attended the Transformative Futures: International Climate Change and Sustainable Development, Challenges of Implementation in Cities in Southeast Asia (organized by Groningen University, Gadjah Mada University, and Thammasat University) on 14-17 MARCH 2023, at Royal Princess Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand. This conference brought together international scholars, PhD candidates, political leaders and policy experts, who are primarily based in the Netherlands, Thailand and Indonesia. The core themes of the conference were: Implementation, Planning and Governance Challenges; Climate Change and Sustainable Development Challenges; Political Perspectives on Implementation; Leadership and Building Public Support for Climate Response and Sustainability. The conference focused on synergies in the implementation of the sustainable development and climate change agendas facing cities in Southeast Asia.
At this conference, Dr. Linda Yanti Sulistiawati presented her research paper ‘ASEAN NDCs: Dream or Reality? Case Studies: Sub-national regulations in Indonesia and the Philippines’ which is available here.
The NDCs refer to the Paris Agreement Nationally Determined Contributions and the focus of this research paper is an analysis of how two member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Indonesia and the Philippines, are achieving their NDCs domestically.
