Selene Tanne first joined APCEL as a pro bono research intern in 2020 and has been APCEL’s full-time Research Assistant since completing her LLB at King’s College London in 2021. She has been involved in research projects on legal readiness for green finance, transnational advocacy networks, marine plastic pollution, and APCEL’s flagship UNEP Environmental Courts & Tribunals: A Guide for Policy Makers 2021.

Selene is pursuing her research interest in how commercial laws can be used to support environmental sustainability. She is currently working on a project that comparatively analysis the climate-related disclosure frameworks of security markets in the UK and in Singapore. She has presented her work at research workshops and the international IUCN Environmental Law Colloquium 2022. In 2022, she was also one of the Open Category winners of the national essay competition, jointly organised by the Competition & Consumer Commission Singapore and the Economic Society of Singapore (CCCS-ESS), on ‘Environmental Sustainability: The Role of Competition and Consumer Protection Laws and Policies’.

Passionate about environmental advocacy and education, Selene launched APCEL’s first Student Outreach Programme pilot in 2022, which is designed to introduce pre-university students to environmental law and policy in the world and in Singapore. Following the success of the pilot, this programme is now a permanent offering at APCEL.

Outside of work, Selene sits on the Executive Committee of Girl Guides Singapore (GGS) as the Special Projects Commissioner. She contributes her passion for and experience in sustainability to create programmes for all GGS members across Singapore to engage with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
