Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UnisSZA) began with the formation of University Darul Iman (UDM) on 1st January 2006, which included Kolej Ugama Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) in Gong Badak, Kuala Terengganu as part of UDM. At present, UniSZA has three campuses, each with a separate and identifiable niche. Gong Badak Campus focuses on professional courses such as law, accountancy and engineering as well as Islam studies. City Campus offers medical and allied health sciences courses whilst the Besut Campus provides ICT, agriculture and biotechnology programmes. The Faculty of Law, Accountancy and International Relations (FLAIR) is situated in Gong Badak Campus together with five other faculties.

FLAIR officially began its operation in 2007, but the law programmed (diploma in law) was actually offered since July 1991 by KUSZA. When KUSZA was merged into UDM, the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia has granted the permission to UDM to offer Bachelor of Law (Hons) programme. Apart from law, FLAIR also provides degrees in accountancy and international relations in UniSZA’s students.
