CALS Research Assistant Khor Jia Wei Delivers Speech at 2025 China-ASEAN Forum on Legal Education and Practice

The 2025 China-ASEAN Forum on Legal Education and Practice was held in Guiyang, China on 27 July 2025. Held under the auspices of the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, the forum was attended by government officials, academics and practising lawyers from ASEAN and China.

The Centre for Asian Legal Studies (CALS) is delighted to share that CALS Research Assistant Khor Jia Wei has delivered a speech on the Centre for Asian Legal Studies Peer Learning Initiative (CAPLI).

As a former Project Director of the CALS-Thammasat University Faculty of Law Peer Learning Initiative (CATPLI), his speech sought to introduce forum attendees to the projects under the CAPLI umbrella and to share the key takeaways that he and his team drew from their experience.

In particular, he highlighted the importance of placing faith in students, noting that CAPLI projects have always been student-led and student-driven. Indeed, students are often better able to connect and relate with peers of similar age groups, allowing for better transmission of legal knowledge. Separately, he reiterated the need to develop cross-jurisdictional understanding of laws and underscored how CAPLI projects sought to value-add in this regard by nurturing both finer legal and cultural appreciation amongst students from NUS and partner universities in the region.

CALS looks forward to continue providing NUS law students with this platform to learn, share and collaborate with students from other civil law jurisdictions in Asia.
