[CALS] CAPPLI Workshop 2026: An Introduction to the Basics of Singapore Corporate Law

The Centre for Asian Legal Studies – Peking University School of Law Peer Learning Initiative (“CAPPLI”) recently concluded its inaugural workshop titled “An Introduction to the Basics of Singapore Corporate Law” (“CAPPLI Workshop”). CAPPLI was started by the Centre for Asian Legal Studies in 2025 to facilitate academic collaboration and knowledge exchange between law students from the National University of Singapore and Peking University.

The first session was held online on Saturday, 18 April 2026, and sought to introduce Chinese law students to Singapore’s legal system. The final two sessions were held in-person on Sunday, 10 May 2026, at Peking University School of Law, and sought to introduce Chinese law students to shareholders’ remedies and corporate restructuring under Singapore law. In addition to law students from Peking University, the CAPPLI Workshop welcomed participants from several other Beijing-based institutions, including Beihang University, China University of Political Science and Law, University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, University of International Business and Economics, Renmin University of China, Tsinghua University, and Beijing Foreign Studies University.

As part of their visit to Beijing, CAPPLI arranged visits to Zhong Lun Law Firm (“Zhong Lun”) and DiDi Chuxing Technology Company (“DiDi”). At Zhong Lun, the delegation was hosted by Mr. Frank Jiang and Mr. Peter Zhong, partners with extensive expertise in cross-border mergers and acquisitions, antitrust and competition law, as well as cybersecurity and data compliance. The discussions offered students valuable insights into China’s evolving business environment, with the lawyers highlighting emerging trends, regulatory challenges, and the practical issues confronting both foreign investors entering China and Chinese enterprises expanding abroad.

At DiDi, China’s leading ride-hailing platform, students were introduced to the company’s approach to platform design, with particular emphasis on user safety. They also received a guided overview of DiDi’s services and technological capabilities, including its advanced supply-and-demand algorithms designed to optimise driver distribution and enhance operational efficiency.
