Description
This workshop, titled ‘An Introduction to the Basics of Singapore Corporate Law’, is organised by students from the Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore, and consists of one online session and two on-site sessions at the School of Law, Peking University. All Chinese law students are invited to attend.
The first session, held online, will provide participants with a foundational understanding of Singapore’s legal system. It will begin with an exploration of Singapore’s legal heritage, tracing the reception of English law in 1826 and the later development of an autochthonous legal system. Additionally, there will also be a discussion of the sources of Singapore law, with particular emphasis on judge-made common law and equity. The session will also provide an overview of the structure of the Singapore legal system.
The second half of the session will examine the circumstances under which the corporate veil will be pierced, providing participants an invaluable opportunity to compare the scope of the doctrine under both Singapore and Chinese laws.
Certificates of participation will be awarded to those who attend at least two out of three sessions in this workshop.
Fees Applicable
The workshop is complimentary.
