Description
Following the success of CATPLI’s First (in 2022) and Second Workshops (in 2023) for Thai law students on Singapore contract and company laws respectively, students of the Thammasat University Comparative Legal Studies will be organising a reciprocal workshop this year titled “An Introduction to the Basics of Thai Contract Law” for Singapore law students. This workshop will focus on the doctrinal differences between Singapore and Thai contract laws, with a primary focus on the Thai Civil and Commercial Code. In so doing, the workshop hopes to foster a deeper sense of understanding, appreciation and respect amongst Singapore law students for Thai contract law.
The first session will introduce students to the Thailand’s legal system, her legal profession and, finally, the requirements for a valid contract to be formed under Thai law. The second session will focus on various curiosities not found in Singapore law, namely, the passing of risk doctrine (a functional equivalent of the frustration doctrine) and the vitiating factors found under Thai law.
