Description

This conference is the Asia leg of a group of 3 conferences organized by Randall Thomas (Vanderbilt Law School), Umakanth Varottil (National University of Singapore) and Paolo Giudici (University of Bozen-Bolzano), editors of a volume to be titled ‘Shareholder Inspection Rights: A Comparative Perspective’, to be produced by Edward Elgar Publishing at the end of 2021. 7 unique papers will be presented at the Asia leg of the conference and will contribute towards the planned book. The volume will examine a broad variety of international legal inspection regimes and how they provide shareholders with rights to facilitate shareholder monitoring. Shareholder inspection rights allow a shareholder to access the documents of the company in which they hold an interest, so as to address the problem of information asymmetry and reduce the agency costs inherent in the corporate structure. The volume will focus on three important geographic areas: Europe, Asia and the Americas.  It will also provide a more in-depth analysis of the historical development of inspection rights in the U.S. and their use in alternative forms of business entities.
