April 11, 2025

On 10 April 2025, the Centre for Asian Legal Studies (CALS) at NUS Law celebrated the launch of “Territorial Governance in Southeast Asia,” a new book by Professor Andrew James Harding. The event took place via Zoom and at Lee Sheridan Conference Room, NUS Faculty of Law, Bukit Timah Campus. The event was moderated by Associate Professor Jaclyn Neo (NUS Law).

Professor Harding’s presentation highlighted the book’s in-depth analysis of territorial governance as a dimension of constitutional law, emphasizing localism, subsidiarity, and the role of local knowledge.

The launch also featured discussions with Assistant Professor Dian A H Shah (NUS Law) and Project Associate Professor Bryan Dennis Gabito Tiojanco (The University of Tokyo). They provided insights into the book’s examination of decentralization and local governance in five Southeast Asian countries, highlighting the region’s innovative approaches to constitutional law.

The event concluded with a Q&A session, allowing participants to explore the nuanced arguments and discoveries presented.
