[CALS] Dive into the Asian Legal Studies with the CALS Chai Chats Podcast

January 30, 2024 | Programmes

The Centre for Asian Legal Studies (CALS), NUS Law Faculty, is thrilled to announce the official launch of its new captivating podcast, “CALS Chai Chats” where we delve into the critical topics of law and legal developments in Asia.

Now accessible to listeners on Spotify and YouTube, CALS Chai Chats aims to shed light on pressing legal issues pertinent to the region. This initiative aligns with CALS’ commitment to enhancing understanding and fostering scholarly discourse in the realm of Asian legal studies.

The first three podcasts feature conversations with: Madan Lokur (former Justice of the Supreme Court of India), Yasantha Kodagoda (Judge of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka), and Alejandro Linares (Judge of the Constitutional Court of Colombia), all of whom explore the relationship between social cohesion and the law in their respective countries. The next two episodes will feature Justice Lazaro-Javier of the Supreme Court of the Philippines and a live podcast with Tun Richard Malanjum, the former Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Malaysia.

Hosted by Dr Dian A.H Shah and Dr Mario Gomez, these episodes offer unique and novel insights that look at “insiders” perspectives of the judiciary. Listeners can anticipate a thought-provoking conversation on the responsibilities and strategies of the judiciary in navigating challenges to social cohesion, particularly within the diverse and evolving fabric of Asian societies.

With more episodes coming, we aspire for the podcast to be part of a meaningful dialogue and help elevate the discourse on Asian law and its profound influence on society.
